Yair Amir
Yair Amir is a Professor of Computer Science and director of the Distributed Systems and Networks lab (DSN) at Johns Hopkins University. Yair is also a co-founder of LTN Global Communications, a leading provider of IP-based live media transmission services. Yair has always emphasized the practical aspects of his research, and has worked extensively with industry.
Yair is the author of numerous publications in the field of distributed systems and networking. He is the original creator of the Spread toolkit, a high performance messaging service that is resilient to faults across local and wide area networks. He was one of the initiators and main developers of the Transis system, an advanced toolkit for building fault tolerant distributed applications, and one of the developers of the Totem protocol, a fast group multicast transport layer. Yair is a creator of the Prime intrusion tolerant replication engine, the SMesh seamless wireless backbone, the Secure Spread high performance secure group communication system, the Spines overlay network, the Wackamole N-Way Failover for servers and routers, and the Backhand clustering project. These systems are deployed in mission critical systems, included in commercial products, and used for research and teaching in universities and research labs all over the world.
Yair Amir holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and an M.Sc. and B.Sc. from the Technion in Israel.
Jonathan Stanton
Jonathan Stanton is a systems builder and researcher in the areas of distributed systems, security and networking. Jonathan designed and implemented extensive architectures for high-performance, scalable distributed applications. He manages operations and engineering of a world-wide video transport network consisting of multiple data centers in North America and globally, and has optimized protocols for applications in fields ranging from financial services to data warehouses to streaming video transport. He is one of the chief architects of the Spread toolkit.
Jonathan served as Assistant Professor of Computer Science at George Washington University where he taught courses in Distributed Systems, Computer Networks, Security, Operating Systems in the Computer Science and conducted research on distributed systems, scalable computer management tools, secure electronic-voting protocols, and group messaging. Jonathan holds a Ph.D. and an M.S.Eng in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University and a B.A. in Mathematics from Cornell University.
Jacob Green
Jacob Green has extensive experience in managing, architecting, and developing complex software systems. He brings to bear his high level of creativity coupled with technical experience to all endeavors. Jacob is an entrepreneur at heart and is infectiously passionate when bringing new and inventive solutions to fruition.
Jacob has extensive expertise with holistically designing and developing systems for military tactical edge networks. He has both managed development efforts, as well as provided technical guidance & review at many levels in this challenging environment. In recent years, Jacob has been very active spearheading work in the DTN paradigm and system (Disruption Tolerant Networking). Jacob also works on the development of a worldwide distribution network for live video broadcast. Prior to Spread Concepts, Jacob co-founded and managed D-Fusion Inc, a privately held web monitoring and intelligence firm.
Jacob holds both an M.S. and B.S. in Computer Science along with a B.A. in Physics from Johns Hopkins University.
John Schultz
John Schultz focuses on the theory, design, and implementation and of distributed systems, messaging systems, data replication and secure systems. John worked extensively on technologies for low latency, high throughput replication for local and wide area networks. He spearheaded the development of a replication system for mobile ad hoc networks, and designed services for persistent dissemination, reliable transport and store+forward on tactical wireless networks. John also created core protocols to support a resilient, global, low-latency private distribution network. Prior to Spread Concepts, John co-founded D-Fusion Inc, where he developed an extensive web crawling and monitoring system.
John has authored publications on theoretical aspects and system implementation in distributed systems and is a creator of the Spread toolkit, and the author of the StdUtil library. John holds an M.S. and B.S. in Computer Science as well as a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University.
Michal Miskin-Amir
Michal Miskin-Amir has over 20 years of Information Technology experience, providing leadership and execution in the development and management of products and services with both startups and established global companies.
Michal has a dynamic, results-oriented approach to the design and implementation of complex software projects, transforming technology from vision to reality. Prior to Spread Concepts, Michal was Director of Software Development for Kinko’s.com, where she managed the full development lifecycle of Kinko’s highly scalable Internet technologies and products. Prior to Kinko’s.com, Michal worked at Radview Software, where she played a key role in defining future product development and was responsible for consulting activities, client support, and technical alliances with industry partners, as well as leading the development of client-server and Internet applications. Michal also worked as Product Manager for Internet technologies at Platinum Technology and is a creator of the Spread toolkit.
Michal holds an M.Sc. in Computer Science and a B.Sc. in Mathematics and Computer Science from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel.
